Still working on some more research regarding Bayside. However, I have something caught in my throat.
I have written three emails to City Council. No one has responded except the mayor. It seems like City Council is under some kind of gag order. That's not what we elected them for.
American Government is a representative democracy in local, state and federal matters. We elect representatives to act in our behalf. State statutes say our elected officials have to tell us, with very rare exception, what they're doing.
Would somebody step forward and tell us what the hell is going on in Bayside? Somebody knows something.
Now, I fully understand why some more control oriented officials would like for us to remain uninformed. Frankly, we voters are a pain in the ass. However, that's not an excuse and it's the American way. That's the government we have. Anything less and we're trending toward totalitarianism. I ain't for that. If you want to be an American leader, you have to count. If you don't count, we don't need you.
The idea of a City Council is to benefit from the logic and reasoning power of all members, collectively. After debate, the collective wisdom of the entire council is contemplated, then voting for the best path follows. If the 6 council members are effectively absent from the meetings, what in the hell do we need them for?
I'm having a hard time getting over this.
