Good morning, North Texas!
Your support and help is needed regarding a couple of bills that that were presented in the Transportation Committee last week, HB 565 and HB 572. Both bills came in response to issues that have and are currently occurring in the Dallas area. Please support these issues, and help ensure these issues do not continue to occur!
HB 565 is a result of the Blacklands Corridor-Northeast Gateway proposed toll road that many of you came out in thousands to ask questions and formally state their opposition to the project and to the concept itself. After much research and many questions into the issue, this bill was drafted that will strip a toll road companies' ability to take personal property and prevent a private toll company from actually owning a toll road. This will protect your personal property rights and hold private toll companies accountable to the public.
HB 572 requires the North Texas Tolling Authority (NTTA) to undergo an organizational performance review. NTTA has been in existence for over 17 years and has never undergone the Sunset review process. This review will assess how an agency can be more efficient, effective, and accountable to the public. Please join me in supporting this bill if you are concerned about the inefficiencies and failures in the toll road billing process and are concerned about NTTA's accountability to the public.
The vote for both of these bills COULD BE as soon as TOMORROW and not all your local members and Transportation Committee members are on board. Please contact the Transportation Committee members listed below and ask them to vote FOR these two bills. Additionally, emailing your Representative asking them to support these bills and to encourage the Transportation Committee to vote the bills out would be effective as well. If you are unsure who your representative is, simply go to this link http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx and type in your address. Please forward this to your friends in the area and ask them to call their elected officials as well!
