I need some help. I need as many as possible to write the Attorney General of Texas (Ken Paxton) and complain about the surging telemarketing abuses. Below is the address to file a consumer complaint. It ain't hard. Just click on it and do what it says.
I just received another stupid telemarketing call regarding my student loan. I was in the graduating class of 1963 at Indiana University. Our student loan consisted of working in the summer and part time while in school. I continue to receive phone calls about nearly everything under the sun. Credit card debt, pharmaceuticals, auto repair insurance, ductwork cleaning, and it goes on and on. I long ago listed my phones under the "do not call" databases. This makes no difference to the telemarketers. They know they will not be prosecuted.
It is high time that an example be made of someone. Life imprisonment is probably a little too much, but 10 years in prison isn't. These telemarketers will never stop unless there is some real danger instead of a nasty note.
In addition to attacking the telemarketers, I think it is appropriate for the State of Texas to require that the various phone companies (at no cost to the consumer) be required to provide the technology tools to block all telemarketing phone calls after the first call. I know they can change phone numbers at will, but that can become very costly to continue to change numbers, and that damages profitability. The phone companies have the technology. We need it.
Politicians respond to public pressure. If there is no pressure, they think everything is fine. They need to be threatened with removal from office. If they begin to believe there is some real possibility of being removed from their cushy job, they'll pick up the phone and call AT&T, et al.
Spend a couple of minutes and help me out. Just click on the hypertext above. Then, talk to your neighbors and friends and get them to raise hell, also.
