As you may know, the role of the attorney general is to support and enforce laws that are enacted by the Texas Legislature. Under Texas law, the Office of the Attorney General is prohibited from providing legal advice, analysis, opinions or representation to private individuals.
You can read about the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Attorney General on the agency website. You may also wish to read “What the Attorney General Can Do for You.”

Subject: Telemarketers
Message:
I get a call every day from a telemarketer. I have never done business with this telemarketer. They want to save me money on my credit cards. I don't need help with my credit cards, so I enter a number if I don't want anymore calls. Of course, they never stop calling. The automatic messages delivered by this irritating caller do not reveal the name of the caller. So, I punch in a number that gets me to an "associate." A person comes on the line, but still doesn't identify who they are. The second I ask who I'm talking to, they hang up. They do this because they know they can get by with it. They know they're breaking the law, but they know your office or the Feds can not stop them. I am only reporting one telemarketer. There are dozens. I want the Texas Attorney General and/or the Feds to bring pressure against the phone companies to give us the technology to defend ourselves. They have the technology and they can do it. The anemic solutions they offer now are a joke. They charge monthly fees for services that don't work. I want something that works. They know how to do it. They don't offer it because it would cost them loss of revenue. I pay outrageous monthly fees to have phone service for me, my friends, and people I want to talk to. I do not pay those fees to offer myself up to every cockamamie nitwit telemarketer on earth......including Asia.......and many, perhaps most, of them are. These telemarketers are committing invasion of privacy.......which is against the law. Their claim that their behavior is freedom of speech is pure bullshit.....and the legislators know it. Telephone companies have their lobbyists with checkbooks. I only have a little local blog, but it is well received. So......maybe I can influence several hundred votes. I am going to start looking for "OFFICIALDOM" that seems to favor the telemarketers. Maybe I can encourage my readers into having a discourse of telemarketers with members of the government.
