ROWLETT RAMBLINGS

The Billboard

If you're reading this blog, I am sure you have seen or heard about the billboard.   It's been a long time since I have seen such response to an event.  If you haven't seen the billboard, or a photo of it on Facebook, here is what it says.

"Don't let Rowlett politicians gamble with your tax dollars."

Jeff Wingate has done some research and posted the info on Facebook.  He reports that the website for the sponsors of the billboard is: buildabetterbayside.com.

The website proclaims a "grass roots" movement of citizens to (my words) support the developer's "new design" for Bayside.  What a bunch of crap.  "Grass roots" means the advertising costs are paid for by the developer.

It would appear to me that a review of all the facebook chatter, email I have received, and  conversations I have had on the matter, the billboard created more resentment rather than any form of support of the developers.  I would estimate that of all the input I have received, at least 90% (probably more) of the respondents are firmly against the Bayside developers.

The billboard is clearly an effort to foment angst among citizens and excite them into using their basic mistrust of politicians as a weapon back against themselves.  It is a feeble attempt to gather supporters for the developer's bait and switch efforts.  It is a tactic a stupid PR firm would use........when instructed to by a stupid developer.

Keep this in mind.  PR doesn't win in a lawsuit.  Evidence wins.  The landowners of Bayside have a lot of answering to do.  This billboard is just one more stupid attempt to avoid delivering on their promise to the citizens of Rowlett.  If you sign up with the developers, you're an idiot.  At the very least, the developers should give back the $3,000,000.00 they have been paid before any attempt of reconciliation can be made.  A deal can still be made that could satisfy the promises made to the citizens of Rowlett and still save some development money.  However, there doesn't appear to be anyone on the opposing side smart enough to realize it.

Litigation is expensive.  The Bayside developers know it.  They have the money for staying power, but they need local support.  The billboard is an attempt to get the loud and uninformed awake.  These are the ones that yell for a living.  I prefer the courts.
