ROWLETT RAMBLINGS

Wisdom from the past

In front of Rowlett's Library once sat a figure of one of my favorite heros.  Ever since I was about 10, I loved the comments of Samuel Clements, also known as Mark Twain.  Another hero of mine was Will Rogers.  Both of these men were pure American, straight out of middle America.  Many of their comments are still applicable today, with perhaps far more insight than we get from our current crop of "leaders."

For example,  about our current far left education the colleges are now extolling, and their attendant demonstrations against countering conservative opinions and ideas.........

What about Patriotism and Politics?

And what about news media and their current royal self anointment of deciding what the news should be instead of what it actually is?

As big a fan as I am  of Mark Twain, I would have never guessed that he could see into the future.  He knew about Facebook long before it's time.

And finally........

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."       Mark Twain

I am not perfect.  Sometimes I forget some of Mark Twain's wisdom.   However, Will Rogers serves as an excellent reminder that I'm beginning to stray, and I need to come back home.

"If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging." — Will Rogers   (Click on Will Rogers for more quotes.) _____________________________

In these days of instant expertise, perhaps it's better to listen to the veterans.  Being intelligent is only half the equation.  The other half is experience.  Good IQs help, but knowing what to do with a high IQ is essential.  There are academicians and there are practitioners.  One doesn't do much good without the other.  You need them both.  You can learn how to start a car at a very early age.  However, it takes a while to learn how to drive one.  One can be elected to office, but that doesn't mean they know how to govern.  Any miscues are not their fault.  They are ours.
